Defraggler – Useful, Free Defragmenting Utility for Windows
The simple truth of the matter is that if you want your computer to run smoothly, you must perform a few maintenance tasks, like taking out the trash, checking the Windows registry for errors, managing the applications that automatically run at startup, and defragment your drive from time to time. Software developer Piriform has a couple of applications to offer, applications that will help you keep your computer running smoothly.
The first application you need to know about is CCleaner. This is a free, easy to use, application that works quickly to remove junk files that are needlessly taking up space on your computer. CCleaner, which is short of Crap Cleaner, can also identify and fix Windows Registry errors, can quickly uninstall applications you no longer need, can help you manage what application run at startup, and it can wipe your drive(s) clean.
The second application you need to know about is Defraggler. Just like CCleaner, this application is easy to use and free as well. What can it do? Well, as the name so adequately points out, Defraggler is a defragmenting utility, so it will defragment the drive you tell it to, or the individual files you tell it to.
To better put things in perspective, to better understand what Defraggler can do, here are its main features:
- You can defragment an entire drive, or you can specify which files or which folders you want to defragment. You can also defragment free space.
- Using Defraggler is safe because it uses the same techniques the Windows operating system uses.
- Defraggler features a nice visual interface that lets you see how fragmented a drive is.
- Defraggler does not take up much space and does not hog your system’s resources.
- You can take Defraggler with you because the application is portable.
- Defraggler provides support for numerous languages.
Before you go get Defraggler and put it to the test, there are a few technical details you need to know about:
Download – the download weighs in at 2.9MB, which is good news. It means it will only take a moment to get Defraggler off the web and onto your computer.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Defraggler provides support for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit editions).
Limitations – Defraggler is offered free of charge for personal use, so there are no limitations.
Defraggler is a properly good defragmenting utility that’s easy to use and does its job fast. You will be hard pressed to find a better defragmenting utility out there that offers the same blend of ease of use and functionality. Complement Defraggler’s functionality with CCleaner and keep your computer running smoothly.
